In early 1978 semi pro function band The Glass Wheel Showband passed an audition to play Hughie Green's, Opportunity Knocks. They performed You Can Help Us Make It which aired on 6 March 1978. Finding work hard to come by as as an 8 or sometimes a 10 piece group they split amicably into two groups in 1979. One half of the group reverted back to The Glass Wheel Show band and the other band became Riporta, an anagram of Airport. Guitarist Gerald Read points out that nobody got the spelling so it evenually became Reporter

The band played their last gig as Airport on 24 February 1978 at Tiffanys in Great Yarmouth. Founder Woodgate said "We should have kept our original name, chnaging it for TV didn't work out for the group so we chnaged back to Glass Wheel in February 1978."
