Bandleader Al James is first seen at The Bedford Arms PH, Nch with his Swing Quartet in July 1958. He later established a residency on Sunday nights at The Norwich Industrial Club, but the name disappears from our calendar in September 1966. We know little about Al himself but the group’s line-up over the years contained many well-known local musicians including Al Garner of The Mustard City Stompers and pianist Roger Cooke, to name two.
