The ambition to be successful and famous prompted the young Avengers to rehearse four to five times a week. This drive and tenacity had its draw backs and the work load was too much for Hipkins, who left the group after a year. The group quickly reshuffled its ranks with Pollyn picking up the sticks. The band soon became proficient and started playing the village hall circuit. It was at this point that Jim Taylor father of the Taylor boys stepped in to manage the band. The group rename themselves The Astrobeats in late 1963.
