"Basti was formed in 1987 when Eve Valve and Herman Herd merged after meeting at Norwich Venue Campaign meetings, and added Mandy Cran (vocals/trumpet). Mandy Cran left after a few gigs (she went on to form Madigan) and was replaced with Karin Abram (vocals/sax). In 1988 Basti answered an ad in the NME looking for bands to tour Poland and did indeed tour Poland later that year. In late 1988/early 1989, they self-released their first record, ‘New York Seltzer’, and soon after that signed to London indie label Way Cool Records. They recorded their album ‘B’ in 1989 at Suite 16 in Rochdale, the studio formerly known as Cargo, part-owned by Peter Hook of New Order. They disbanded in 1992 the morning after appearing live on Radio 1’s Sound City broadcast from the Waterfront. Guitarist Mark Howe went on to join The Neutrinos. Mark Wernham, Paul Thompson, Steve Appleton and Ian McGregor formed Globo, drummer David Clark formed several bands including Delta Radio and The Improvement." MW02/02/2020
