Formed as The Epics in early 1964, the band were originally a quartet, but on the departure of Tony Coe, they changed their name to The Clique. Between May 1965 and February 1966, the new trio provided backing for brother and sister act Rod & Carolyn, performing as The Clique with Rod & Carolyn. Coe returned in October 1966 just as the group went into the studio to record You’re My Girl, written by bass player Lingard, and Steve Winwood’s You Must Believe. Lingard says that a proposed residency at The Top Ten Club in Hamburg in 1966 fell through but was replaced by a tour of USAF Bases in France a year later. Glazebrook recalls the winter 1967 tour of the bases as one of his band highlights. After the Clique folded, Glazebrook was next seen in The Faux Pas before reforming The Clique in the early seventies with Ukrainian brothers Nick and Paul Petryszyn, who had originally been the backbone of the Ipswich-based Smokeless Zone.
