Nigel Portass of Sutton Bridge is often referred to as the pied piper of Sutton Bridge, his versatility and energy have kept him in front of audiences for a majority of his life. Multi-talented, Nigel was the mainstay behind Kings Lynn’s Danny Ford & The Offbeats. When the group split in early 1967 Nigel began playing Tenor Sax with Burt Murray’s Big Band while starting a new project playing keys in The George Kaye Trio. "There never was a George Kaye in the band," laughs Nigel. The Trio continued into the seventies, before becoming known as The Nigel Portass Trio/Band. The workload never stopped Nigel playing with other groups and he was also instrumental with The Chris James Band and Mike Priors, Indiana Band during the same period.
