The Legendary Gazelles were formed during 1985 for a one-off gig at the Turgid Lemming talent contest but failure at the event did not put them off and they started gigging the Norwich circuit. For about four years they played various gigs around the city including The Jacquard, Norwich Arts Centre, The Kings Head, The Bill Wilson Room & The GSA. During which time they did three recording sessions and a video shot. Performances were also aided by additional musicians such as Elaine Roe (Masqueraders) on vocals and Jerry Wood (Sneakin' Suspicion) on harmonica.

The demo was recorded in three sessions. A 4-track cassette demo (Out Of Our Control; Partytime; Coat Of Many Colours; I Want You) was released after the first session. A three-track demo (Living For Tomorrow; Bright Lights, Big City, I’d Do Anything For You) was released after the second session. All fourteen studio recordings were released on cassette after the third session for £1.50.

The band never gigged outside of Norwich but had many good reviews in the local press (and one bad one from Baz McHat of the Wilde Club). Possibly the highlight of their career was a few mentions by the late John Peel on his radio Norfolk show. The band split in July 1989 due to geographical differences.

In 2012 the band got back together for a few rehearsals. This was mainly for fun, but also intending to do the occasional gig. The first gig in the twenty-first century took place in 2017. The band have also been working on some new songs as well as the old classics.
