[header picture] "This is the Oily Rag Band in 1985, left to right: me (Suzie Hanna), Sarah Bristow, Bob Hanna, Nigel Orme, Richard Snell and Nigel Howard. The original band began for Rag Week in 1983, we rolled an old piano up the hill from the Art School and played on London Street. We all had band names...I was Jozie Venue, Sarah was Toots Kaboodle, Bob was Lenny Fruitz, Nigel O was Louis Bagel, Richard was Eddie Daze and Nigel H was Brian D'Amage. We busked with no amplification and were inspired by Jug and Jook band music, Trad Jazz, and a bit of Hot Club, but also liked to sing old classics like 'Born too late' and 'Going to the Chapel' acapella, and would also tap dance and play kazoos." "When the band split Sarah [Bristow] & Richard [Snell] formed Lucy & The Swing Brothers and myself, Bobby [Hanna] and Nigel [Orme] formed The Ten Bob Notes." SH 06/01/2021
