OUTCASTS, THE

Last updated: 14-03-2014

Lead Vocals: Dave Whitelum

Lead Vocals, Guitar: Richard Savage

Guitar: John Worfolk

Bass: Brian Whomes

Drums: John Savage

The Outcast’s were formed by the Savage brothers and were well supported by their parents who had allowed the boys to rehearse in their front room at weekends. Reg Savage had even constructed a bolt on sound proof board to help insulate the front room of the small terrace house in Sir Lewis street in Kings Lynn

John Worfolk remembered joining the band who at that time had featured John Preddy on guitar "John didn’t stay long and had left the group before we had started gigging. We all knew each other from attending Kings Lynns, King Edward VII grammar school. We played the local circuit and the village Halls adjacent to Kings Lynn such as St Germans & Magdalen we had bought a van but none of us were old enough to drive" John laughs "Our best gig was at Banham Village Hall when we backed a band called Buddy Videll & The Nightflyers. They weren’t local, but they were really professional playing American style rock and roll and above all they were really nice people. The guitarist broke a string and took one of mine, insisting on paying for it. It was also quite amusing to see their brand new van parked next to our beaten up old Bedford."

The boy’s debut came at West Newton Village Hall on the 4th of May 1964

On the 25th May 1965 the group took part in the Dereham heat of the Mercury Beat Contest held at the Sunshine Rooms. The Band split shortly after this with drummer John going on to form/join Jo’s Boy’s. John Worfolk took a rest from the scene but was enticed back in 1968 when he joined the locally successful  DLJ Trio
