In early 1960 Trevor Rowland & Willy Brown were performing skiffle in an Everly Brothers style duo in and around the backwaters of Leighston. Later that year they were joined by [name required] to form the The Rebels. Ian Chatten was also an early member of the group but departed after only a handful of gigs

In 1961 the group added Robin Hare from local group The Nightjars and Ron Philpot on Tenor Sax. Early demo’s reveal the band practicing their set of dynamic rock’n’roll covers

By [date required] the band had built up a good following and were offered a gig in Hamburg at the Star Club [more details required]

The groups new found popularity meant their name caused concern as it clashed with [band required] so in early 1963 The Rebels became The Wild Oats
