Continuation of solo project of Dave Donley

"Another blast from the past! I was 18. Shantel was a strange beast, I'd done a solo album in 1984 called 'Trouble With Cinderella' under my own name playing all instruments/vocals,

I got asked if I'd play the Royal Albert Hall in Sept 1985 but I hadn't got a live band so I asked (from left to right) Andy Best to play keyboards, Sam McCarthy to play bass, &

(Larry Mullen lookalike!) Nick Haverson to take on the drums. The gig was ace (obviously!) & I was on Radio 1 Newsbeat the afternoon of the show. I called it 'Shantel' to disguise

the solo-ness of it all. Andy was the guitarist with 'Left hand Of God' who I was drumming for at the time but was up for doing Keys), Sam I'd been in 'Dawn Patrol' with, & Nick was

with 'Council Of Ancients' who I saw playing in Norwich & I just went up to him after their set & said "fancy a session job playing the Albert Hall", ha ha! He went on to be a successful

actor. I've got loads of pics from the night, it was an event for Save The Children Fund in the presence of Princess Anne who I met afterwards at a private reception, she was funny as fuck

when the press had disappeared & I've got a great shot of me & her chatting. She enjoyed it so much we were asked to play at Sandringham a year later so I slung another line-up

together with Richard Kett (Bass, Screen3), Andy Swain (Keyboards, Itch), Kryzstof Fijalkowski (2nd Guitar, The Bardots) & Robert Masters (Drums), we also appeared on Angila TV miming

to a track off my solo album. Good times!" DD
