The exploits of the Ely City Ramblers had brought together many of the members of The Vigilantes. Now entering into the beat era the group were determined not to get left behind. Derek had been singing since he was twelve and formed the rocknroller's named Johnny & the Vigilantes with the odd fact there was no Johnny in the band

 

In 1964 the band recorded four original songs at Bayes recordium

 

The band finished in mid 1965 when trainee bank manager bassist Ken Cooper was offered a post away shortly followed by Geoff Kitson decision to get married
