Enthusiastic guitarist Pete Leonard had played his way through a number of nameless skiffle & beat acts before meeting up with Tony, Chris & Dave to form Tony & the Starbeats. The groups exsistence saw the fleeting appeareance of guitarist Tony Dybal who went on to become part of The Planets. In 1962 a shake up on vocals saw the band fronted by Mervyn Hurn and this line-up played Anglia TV’s The Sandy Sanford Show performing Dancing to the Locomotion and closing the show with Sweet Little Sixteen

The band found themselves constantly gigging, their show which featured two girl dancers Linda & Jane who followed the band around and danced with them

In early 1962 the band supported up & coming swedish instrumentalists, The Spotniks

Line-up changes in late 1964 see's the end of The Starbeats group. Mervyn & Pete join the already established Norwich band The Falcons. Dave Spinks retired to play Golf only to be enticed back to scene with Marcus & Friends in 1992

The Golden Years Version of the band only see’s Mervyn & David return as original members. Pete has regrettably had to retire from performing due to ill heath.

The back bone of the band now consists of Marcus, Jim & Brian all of whom have previous 60’s historys with local bands The Electrons & [band required] respectively

One thing I did notice in my research is that either the band requested or they just had a really good manager is the fact that the group played more than their fair share of beauty pagents infact a majority compared to the rest of the groups in the county, come on boys explain yourselves?
