Thanks to Tom Wade (Phils father) the groups history is excellently preservered in two volumes of scrap book as he painstakinly noted every movement of his son's evolving career. From his first ever public performance at the Rose Valley pub on Unthank Road to his 730th and final gig with the group that transpired into Eyes of Blond.

Early performances of The Vitones saw fleeting appearences of Geoff Crampton on lead guitar and John Watts on lead vocals, John would eventually become the bands permanent frontman when the group became Circuit 5. The Vitones line-up stabilised when Jill (last name unknown) joined on vocals and band started to gig as Jill & the Vitones.

Hair dresser Peter Revell had named the band after a hair product. Tom Wades records are so detailed that we know that between the groups first gig on the 16th April 1964 at the Rose Valley Tavern, that the group made exactly 28 performances before making changes to their line-up and becoming The Circuit 5
