Although not strictly seen as one of the region’s venues, concerts have been held in the Stuart Hall part of the building. Stuart Hall was built onto Suckling House in 1925. Suckling House itself dates back to the early 1300s and has an incredible history see: www.heritagecity.org for full story. For us the story is about a small period in the late sixties/early seventies and the hosting of a rare appearance of short lived underground band Spirogyra, now seen as pioneers of the acid folk scene. The band was originally a duo from Bolton but became a full band in late 1969 with the addition of vocalist Barbara Gaskin and others. The band was an immediate if not brief success. Since April 1978 the building has been the home of Cinema City. It does host small monthly Original Soundtrack gigs and since its multi million pound revamp has been a permanent fixture on the Norwich Sound and Vision festival roster.
