Starting life as a skiffle group the boys progressed into one of Norfolks best known acts. Clive Dybal was a ladies hair dresser while Bob Sutton owned the Anvil Garage out at Marsham, and in later years headed up the Mousehold Protection Society (MPS) and campaigning for the band stand that now adorns the Fountain footbal ground opposite Zaks.

John Crossfield (right in the picture) at first played a hand made guitar, built by keen band follower Rod Emmerson who was later to join the band when they were to become The Vikings. The drummer was simply known to most as Napper [name required] and was believed to have come from Horsford.

Clive Dybal left the band in [date required] and in 1963 emigrated to Australia returning to England in [date required]. His replacement in the band was Barry Lee

Eric Nichols was the son of Norwich Lord Mayor AE Nichols and it was on his departure that the band became known as The Vikings. Rehearsals would either be at Bobs garage or out at the Oxnead Mill owned by Jimmy Crampton who is somehow connected to the Norwich Airport [confirmation required]. The band would play out at Horsford Flagcutters, the Red Lion, Bishopgate and Hoveton Village Hall among other places, but are shown in the photo at a practice at the Scout Hut in Hellesdon. After leaving the Vampires, Eric seem to disapear from the scene, as his name does not crop up as playing in any further bands.
