This band were the protégées of the long-since demolished Sprowston Youth Centre, Cannerby Ln and pupils of the nearby Sprowston Secondary Modern School. Guitar enthusiasts Batson and Mortimer lived in the same street and soon took over the weekly music lessons; they were great admirers of the instrumental bands of the day, an influence not lost in their early repertoire.

Frontman Parker helped the band by establishing a residency at the Duke of Norfolk PH, Nch as Peter & The Black Aces. In early 1964 Parker left the band and was replaced by Hipperson, who had only guested with them up until that point and they became Jane & The Black Aces.

In March 1965, the group’s line-up changed once again when amalgamating with local beat group The Vendors. In April 1965, the band relaunch themselves with a small ad stating, 'The Scene 5 formerly The Black Aces are now available for booking.' It was this final line-up of the band that entered The NM&J Great Beat Comp (appx2) albeit under their old mantle The Black Aces, playing in heat two at The Gala BR, Nch on 11 May 1965.

NB: It is belived that Peter Baston passed away at an early age due to a heart deffect he'd had since birth.
