The majority of the group had sprung from young beat contenders The Fugitives renaming themselves The Caste in October 1966. Having signed to Eddy Kessner’s President label the group had high hopes when they recorded Don’t Caste Aside and were allowed the unusual privilage of recording one of their own compositions for the B-Side. Alas their illusions were short lived and in mid 1968 lead vocalist Jim Duncan left the group. In October 1968 the group are joined by Brian Russell and overnight change their musical direction and become caberet act The Brian Russell Showcase
